3M has met this challenge
with the Scotchshield Ultra line of High Performance Safety &
Security Films. The use of Scotchshield can protect your buildings
occupants while providing all of the other benefits that the traditional
architectural films offer. These films are so strong that U.S. Government
uses them to protect federal employees around the world from bomb blasts.
Many schools have applied these same safety films to their windows to
protect students from flying glass. "...following
the 1996 terrorist bombing that killed 19 U.S. airmen in Saudi Arabia,
a Pentagon report found that 12 of those airmen died as a result of glass-cut
injuries. More than 90 percent of the injuries suffered in that attack
involved significant lacerations, and glass was shattered more than 1,200
feet from the explosion." When professionally installed,
3M Scotchshield film is invisible, and forms a protective
shield that resists penetration and helps keep glass in place through
attempted break-ins, vandalism, storms, earthquakes and explosions. 3M window film was put
to the test in Oklahoma City in 1995, as evidenced by this letter written
to the President of 3M by a man whose office was six blocks from
the Federal Center. He believes that the 3M Scotchshield window
film in his office saved him from severe injury or death. Security film can also minimize
damage to the interior of your building by preventing broken glass from
embedding in carpets, furnishings, computers and other equipment, thus
accelerating the clean-up process. If injuries do occur as a result of
one of these events, the installation of 3M Scotchshield film
can be used to show due diligence on the part of ownership or management
in taking steps to improve occupant safety. For testing information and
specifications, please see Technical information on 3M Scotchshield Safety
and Security film applications for physical security, vandalism mitigation
or other causes of glass breakage. Click
